On the completion of one year of sexual harassment and murder of a female doctor of Medical College and Hospital in West Bengal, the victim’s family called for Nabanna Chalo Abhiyan. This march includes the victim’s family as well as many senior BJP leaders. On this March, Kolkata Police lathi -charged on this march on Saturday (August 9, 2025). The victim’s parents have also been injured in the police lathicharge.
On the completion of one year of this horrific incident, BJP MLA and Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly Shubhendu Adhikari also attended the March. Shubhendu officer has sat on a dharna on the Park Street in Kolkata after the police lathi-charge on the people involved in the Nabanna march and the victim’s parents were injured.
The parents of the deceased woman doctor called for Nabanna March
On the completion of one year of the case, the parents and family of the deceased woman doctor Abhaya (changed name) took out the Nabanna march questioning its investigation. However, Section 163 has been implemented in the Nabanna campus (the state government’s secretariat, where Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is office), under which no movement can be done there. The Kolkata Police had already issued a warning regarding this. Despite this, one after another, the procession broke the barricade and started moving towards the Nabanna Secretariat.
During Nabanna March, tension spread from Park Street in Kolkata to Dorina Crossing, Howrah Maidan to Santragachhi. The people involved in the march were trying to move forward by removing the iron gate. The police were repeatedly warning people not to break the barricade, but people continued their efforts. Meanwhile, Kolkata Police lathi -charged the Park Street to stop the protesters.
Shubhendu officer accused
At the same time, the Kolkata Police stopped the Leader of the Opposition and BJP MLA Shubhendu Adhikari as soon as the Naban march started in Rani Rashoni Avenue. After this, there was a lot of uproar on the Park Street. On stopping the protest march, Shubhendu officials sat on the road to sit on the road and started accusing the state government. He alleged that the parents of the deceased were also injured in the action of Kolkata Police.
The mother of the deceased claims, head injuries
Talking to the news agency PTI, the mother of the deceased woman doctor claimed that she had suffered a head injury in the Kolkata police action and her shankha was also broken. He said, “Why are they stopping us? We only want to reach the secretariat and ask for justice against the heinous crime with our daughter.”
