The Supreme Court on Wednesday canceled the bail of two -time Olympic medalist and wrestler Sushil Kumar. He is the main accused in the murder of Junior National Wrestling Champion Sagar Dhankhar. A bench of Justices Sanjay Karol and Prashant Kumar Mishra canceled Sushil Kumar to surrender within a week, canceling the bail decision given by the Delhi High Court on March 4. The order came on the plea of Sagar’s father Ashok Dhankhar, in which he challenged the High Court’s bail order.
Senior advocate Siddharth Mridul appeared in the Supreme Court on behalf of Ashok Dhankhar, while Sushil Kumar was adopted by senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani.
Let me tell you that on 4 May 2021, Sagar Dhankar and two of his friends were attacked in the parking area of Chhatrasal Stadium in Delhi. It is alleged that the attack was carried out by Sushil Kumar and his associates due to property dispute. Sagar Dhankhar was a wrestler of Rohtak in Haryana. He was seriously injured after the attack. He died due to brain damage from the Blunt Force Trauma. Two of his companions were also injured.
After this incident, Sushil Kumar roamed in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Haryana for 18 days. On 23 May 2021, Delhi Police arrested him from Mundka area when he arrived to take cash on a scooty taken from a national level player.
After his arrest, he was suspended from his railway job. He was sent to judicial Hiras. In October 2022, charges were framed under several sections of IPS and under the Arms Act.
