‘We are not afraid of wrong allegations of vote theft’, Chief Election Commissioner spoke on Bihar sir
Chief Election Commissioner Dnyanesh Kumar said on Sunday (August 17, 2025) that the special intensive revision (SIR) of the voter list is to remove all errors in voter lists and it is a serious concern that some parties are spreading misinformation about it.
This statement of the Election Commission has come at a time when the Congress and other parties involved in the ‘India’ alliance started the ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ in the electoral state of Bihar against the alleged ‘vote theft’. Addressing the press conference, the Chief Election Commissioner termed the allegations of double voting and ‘vote theft’ as baseless and said that all the stakeholders are working to make SIR successful in a transparent manner.
Opposition spreading wrong information about SIR
He said, ‘It is a matter of serious concern that some parties and their leaders are spreading wrong information about SIR in Bihar. The Election Commission urges all political parties to register claims and objections on the draft voter list in Bihar, still 15 days left.
Kumar said, “The doors of the Election Commission are open to all and booth level officials and agents are working in a transparent manner.” Kumar said that the Election Commission cannot discriminate between political parties and both the ruling and opposition parties are the same for the Election Authority.
Insult to the Indian Constitution
He said, “If election petitions are not filed within 45 days, but allegations of votes are made, then it is an insult to the Indian Constitution.” Kumar said that neither the Commission nor the voters are afraid of double voting and baseless allegations of ‘vote theft’.
He said that the Commission will be firm towards voters of all classes regardless of politics being played by some people. This comment has come at a time when the opposition has intensified its attack after the allegations of voter list amendment in Bihar and ‘vote theft’ by the Congress.
