‘SC-st quota is being ignored in jobs’, Suvendu officer accused Mamta government of ignoring tribals
Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari alleged on Tuesday (August 26, 2025) that Mamata Banerjee government is constantly ignoring the tribal community in the state.
Suvendu Adhikari said in a press conference that the tribal community in the state is being denied reservation provided in education and government jobs. He claimed that the state government is giving priority to contract -based jobs by abolishing permanent posts.
Referring to the recruitment of contract employees with a monthly salary of Rs 15,000 monthly, he alleged that no reservation is being considered and thus the six percent quota prescribed for tribals and 22 percent for scheduled castes are being ignored.
The official said, “The central government guidelines and the recommendations of the Commission clearly say that reservation is not limited to permanent posts, but also applies in casual, contract, part -time and promotion. I will write a letter to the Governor and take legal action with the representatives of Scheduled Castes and Tribes.
He alleged that in the last years, reservation rules were not followed during appointments to thousands of posts and a large number of fake Scheduled Tribes certificates have been issued by the state government.
Suvendu officer also alleged that a tribal teacher and football referee was allegedly kicked by a Trinamool Congress leader during a football match in Medinipur on August 15. He said that after the protest, the accused was arrested but he was released on bail within 48 hours.
He underlined the contribution of tribal leaders like Birsa Munda and Sidhu Murmu to the freedom struggle and appreciated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s policy of promoting the representation of tribals. He described the election of President Draupadi Murmu as an example of this and said that the Trinamool Congress had opposed his nomination.
