India said on Friday (September 05, 2025) that it supports the end of the Ukraine struggle and the return of permanent peace in the region. This comment of the Ministry of External Affairs has come amidst the efforts made by Washington to end the war in Ukraine.
Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said, “As far as the struggle in Ukraine is concerned, we welcome all the recent efforts towards establishing peace in Ukraine.” He said in his weekly media briefing, ‘We hope that all sides will move forward in a creative manner. India supports the establishment of early end and permanent peace of struggle.
Ukrainian counterpart Andrei Sibiha’s conversation with Jaishankar
Foreign Minister S Jaishankar discussed the Ukraine conflict with his Ukrainian counterpart Andrei Sibiha on Thursday (September 04, 2025). After a phone conversation with Jaishankar, Sibiha said that he informed his Indian counterpart about the current war status and efforts to achieve justified peace from Ukraine.
He said on social media, “We rely on India’s loud voice and active role in support of the complete termination of enmity and widespread international peace efforts.” The Ukrainian Foreign Minister said that he and Jaishankar had agreed to meet during the United Nations General Assembly later this month.
Talks three days after the annual summit
The Jaishankar-Sibiha talks took place three days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Russian President Vladimir Putin during the annual summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Sangathan (SCO) in Tianjin, China.
In the meeting, Modi told Putin that India welcomes all the recent efforts towards establishing peace in Ukraine and it is a call for humanity to find a way to end enmity as soon as possible.
India’s attempt to end Russia-Ukraine conflict
Ukrainian President Volodimir Jailonsky spoke to the Prime Minister of India on the phone two days before Modi’s meeting with the Russian President. After a phone conversation with Modi, Jailonsky said that India is ready to make necessary efforts and give proper indication to Russia. India has been constantly calling for the end of Russia-Ukraine conflict through dialogue and diplomacy.
Modi visited Moscow in July last year and told Putin that the solution to Ukraine struggle is not possible in the battlefield and peace efforts between bombs and bullets would not be successful. The following this month, Modi visited Kiev, the capital of Ukraine and told Jailonsky that Ukraine and Russia should sit together without wasting time to end the war.
