AIFF President Kalyan Choubey’s statement, said- Indian club is going through football crisis

Kalyan Choubey, president of the All India Football Federation (AIFF), admitted on Sunday that the club is going through the crisis ‘crisis’ due to uncertainty about the future of the country’s top level Indian Super League (ISL) and needs collective efforts to overcome it.

ISL organizer FSDL decided to ‘postpone’ the 2025-26 session on July 11, after which three clubs have stopped the operation of their top teams or employees and employees of the top team due to uncertainty for renewal of MRA (Master Rights Agreement) in 2010 with AIFF.

Choubey said in an interview to PTI, “It is true that we are going through a crisis that we are not responsible for. Some self -proclaimed reformers with vested interests have created this situation. I believe that by the grace of God, we will collectively recover from this crisis. “

Choubey also expressed surprise at the request of the Supreme Court by 11 ISL clubs to bring the ‘existing status’ of Indian football to attention where a case related to the Constitution of the National Federation is pending. ISL clubs said in a letter that if the AIFF does not take action on their request, they will have no option but to seek judicial assistance independently.

Among the 13 clubs of ISL, Mohan Bagan Super Giant and East Bengal have not signed the letter. Choubey said, “The matter (August 7 in Delhi) was discussed in a meeting with the CEO of all 13 clubs, so it was surprising for us to receive this letter within 24 hours. Such dialogue could be avoided. ”Asked if the AIFF could knock the door of the Supreme Court for clarity on the matter, he said, “We are taking legal advice on this possibility.”

The AIFF said on August 7 that there would be another meeting with the clubs to set the super cup date which could be held in September to give competitive matches to the players. Choubey said, “We will take legal advice in the next few days. After that we can meet clubs again but it will only happen after August 17. ”

When asked about any scheme to compensate the revenue deficit of clubs, he said, “We will meet again to pursue our discussion.” Choubey was asked if AIFF can host ISL alone, he said, “All options are open. However, it would be better to make a collective agreement by all stakeholders and any decision thereafter. ”

The first meeting was held in February to discuss the 2010 MRA renewal between AIFF and FSDL and when Chaubey was asked about the delay in the regard, he refused to comment. Choubey said, “I can’t comment on it.” But whenever needed, AIFF has always been available for any meeting related to the development of football.
