Allegations ranging from hawala connection to division of division, 12 political parties now out of election race in Jammu and Kashmir
Taking an important step before the upcoming panchayat and local body elections and two vacant assembly seats by-elections, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has canceled the registration of 12 political parties in Jammu and Kashmir.
Among these canceled parties, there is also a party that contested the 2002 assembly elections with the slogan of partition of three parts of Jammu and Kashmir. Another party removed from the registry is being led by a former minister of the PDP-Congress alliance, who was arrested in the hawala case.
Election Commission removed the name from the registry
The list also includes a party formed by a former MP, who had the support of Awami Action Committee (AAC) for contesting on the Janata Party ticket in the 1977 state elections. The decision was made public through an official order on Friday (September 19, 2025). These parties have been removed from the ECI registry on the basis of not contesting any elections in the last six years.
According to the order, due to not contesting any elections for the last six years, Backward Classes Democratic Party, Duggar Pradesh Party, Revolutionary Creative Prayas Morcha, Jammu and Kashmir People’s Party (Secular), Kashmir Vikas Front, Nature Mankind Friendly Global Party, Secular Party of India and Social Movement Party (Headquarters Jammu and Kashmir) have been canceled.
JKNDF declared illegal organization in the year 2025
The Jammu and Kashmir National Democratic Front (JKNDF) was led by Abdur Rashid Kabuli, who won the Janata Party ticket from Idgah region of Srinagar in 1977. At that time Kabuli had the support of the Awami Action Committee, which was declared an illegal organization by the central government in 2025. The Nature Mainkind Friendly Global Party is headed by former minister Babu Singh in the PDP-Congress government. He was arrested in 2022 in the hawala case.
