In American universities, applications have fallen by 13 percent year-on-year as Indian students are liking destinations like Germany, where 2024-25 saw an increase of 32.6 percent. Edtech Company Upgrade’s Transnational Education (TNE) report 2024-25 states that the US is no longer a natural and most preferred educational destination for Indian students.

It said that applications in American universities have fallen by 13 percent year-on-year, while European destinations like Germany (32.6 percent in 2024-25) and United Arab Emirates (where 42 percent international students are Indians) are being seen significantly.

60 percent rate in America

According to the report, West Asia is rapidly becoming a practical and accessible foreign study site for Indian students, where degree programs are available from global complexes. It said that satellite campus of American universities including Georgetown, John’s Hopkins, RIT, Carnegie Mellon and Weel Cornell in Dubai and Qatar’s education city grant the same degrees as their domestic institutions.

The report said that in 2022 the US (19 percent) and Canada (18 percent) were top destinations for Indian students. According to this, by 2023, this rate in the US reached about 60 percent, which stopped at 47 percent due to many factors. Two years later the landscape changed, as it was suitable for career.

Applications decrease in Canada too

The Transitional Education (TNE) Report 2024-25, is based on a survey of more than one lakh respondents held from January 2024 to May 2025, including mainly Indian students. The report said that there has been a decrease in applications in Canada, which has come down from 18 percent in 2022 to 9 percent in FY 2025.

Meanwhile, it said that despite the concerns related to policy changes, thousands of students are still attracted from India towards Britain, the credit goes to its universities, small postgraduate degrees and comprehensive subject courses, who achieved the rank globally. It said that along with the dominance of Britain, Ireland has also made its place fast.
