Amit Shah commented on B Sudarshan Reddy and 18 former judges objected, now 56 former judges including Ranjan Gogoi retaliated

There has been a new debate in the country regarding the dignity and political controversies of the judiciary. 56 former judges have criticized the statement of 18 former judges, in which he on behalf of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Vice Presidential candidate of Opposition India alliance and former Supreme Court Judge B.K. The remarks made on Sudarshan Reddy were described as unfortunate.

Amit Shah named Sudarshan Reddy in Salwa Judum case

Union Home Minister Amit Shah had recently said in a recent media interview that in 2011, a two -judge bench of the Supreme Court, which included Justice Sudarshan Reddy, was prolonged due to the decision given to close Salwa Judum (anti -Naxal organization). Shah had said that if Salwa Judum was not finished, the left Wing Extremeism would have been finished by 2020. For this reason, he directly accused Justice Reddy of “supporting Naxalism”.

The statement of 18 judges shows political advocacy

Opposing this comment of Amit Shah, 18 former judges had said that the Supreme Court’s decision on Salwa Judum does not support Naxalism or its ideology from anywhere. He described Shah’s allegation as misinterpretation and unfortunate. Now 56 former judges have retaliated and said that the statement of 18 judges shows political advocacy under the guise of judicial freedom.

He said, “This practice shows the judiciary’s institution in political color and hurts its impartiality. Former judges who choose the way to come into politics, should keep their point within the same scope. The judiciary should not drag it.”

Among the 56 former judges who have issued this statement, former Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi and P. Sadashivam, former Supreme Court Judge A. Of. Sikri and M.R. Shah, and former Chief Justice of several High Court are also included. Former judges say that when some judges repeatedly issue statements on political events, the message goes that the entire judiciary is standing with a political group, while the truth is not. He appealed that the judiciary’s institution should be kept away from political disputes and its fairness and dignity should be preserved.
