The 18 -member Indian team was announced on Wednesday for the Asia Cup hockey to be held in Rajgir, Bihar. In which forward Shilanand Lakra and Dilpreet Singh have retained their place. The tournament will be played from August 29 to September 7, whose winner will get direct admission to the FIH Men’s World Cup next year, which will be in the Netherlands and Belgium from 14 to 30 August.
Drag flicker Harmanpreet Singh is the captain of the team. Rajinder Singh, Lakra and Dilpreet were part of the Indian team on Australia tour. Rajidar was selected in place of Shamsher Singh, while Lakra recently replaced Lalit Upadhyay, who recently said goodbye to international hockey. Dilpreet has got preference over Gurjant Singh.
Striker Lalit Upadhyay retired from international hockey after the Europe of FIH Pro League in June. India got Pool A with Japan, China and Kazakhstan in the Asia Cup. The Indian team will play the first match against China on August 29. This is followed by playing from Japan on 31 August and Kazakhstan on September 1.
The Daromadar of Golkeeping will be on Krishan B. Pathak and Suraj Karra. The defense stars Harmanpreet and Amit Rohidas along with Jarmanpreet Singh, Sumit, Sanjay and Jugaz Singh. The midfield will feature Manpreet Singh, Vivek Sagar Prasad, Rajinder, Raj Kumar Pal and Hardik Singh. Mandeep Singh, Abhishek, Sukhjit Singh, Lakra and Dilpreet will handle the responsibility in the forward line. Neelam Sanjip Cess and Selvam Karti are placed in the reserve.
