BCCI’s statement on Kohli-Rohit’s ODI retirement, said- there is no hurry to take a decision
The Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) is not in a hurry to take any decision amidst the ongoing speculation about the ODI future of veteran Indian players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma and at the moment its entire focus is on the Asia Cup to be played in the T20 format.
After the cancellation of the proposed Bangladesh tour in August, India’s next ODI will be held in the three -match series to be played in Australia from 19 to 25 October. Kohli and Rohit jointly have 83 centuries and over 25,000 runs in ODIs.
There is a discussion in Indian cricket that by the ODI World Cup to be held in October 2027, Rohit will be 40 and Kohli will be 39 years old. In such a situation, will these two giants be able to stay till then. A source who has been aware of the case told ‘PTI-Bhasha’ on the condition of confidentiality, “If he has any plan, it is obvious that he will tell the top officials of the Cricket Board of India (BCCI), as he had done before the England Test tour.”
He said, “From the perspective of the Indian team, the next big tournament is the T20 World Cup and preparations related to it. Currently, the meditation will be on sending the best team for the Asia Cup T20 tournament, hopefully all the players will be fit and available. “The BCCI never takes a hasty decision and he always tries to test the feelings of the people before any sensitive decision given the big fan class of two players.
Both these players played the last tournament for the country in Dubai. Where Kohli scored a century against Pakistan, successfully chasing the target in the Group League stage. Rohit played a brilliant half -century innings while chasing the target in the final. Rohit and Kohli, however, have not played any competitive cricket after the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Kohli now lives in London and recently shared a story on his Instagram in which he was seen practicing in the indoor net session. This indicates that they have started practicing. Rohit Sharma was in England on leave after IPL. He has recently returned to Mumbai. Hopefully, they will also start practicing in a few days. Some media reports claimed that the BCCI is offering these two players to play a farewell match in Sydney on 25 October.
An internal source of BCCI, however, denied these reports, saying that there has been no discussion about it yet. The Vijay Hazare Trophy (National ODI tournament) is also being held from December 24 and before that the Indian team has to play six ODIs. There is a three -match ODI series against South Africa on domestic soil in November after the tour of Australia.
The source said, “If they also play the Vijay Hazare Trophy, six ODI matches will be played before that. Three List A matches (50 overs) between India A and South Africa A will be played in Rajkot on 13, 16 and 19 November respectively between the ODI series against Australia and South Africa. “He said,” The question is whether the pair would want to play three list a match or two matches before the South Africa series. ” Even more important is whether Ajit Agarkar and his companions would like this. ”
He said, “Three ODIs (11, 14 and 18 January) will also be played between India and New Zealand with Vijay Hazare Trophy (December 24, 2025 – 18 January, 2025). So if he also plays the Vijay Hazare Trophy, it cannot be more than two or three matches.
