BRS-BJD’s big announcement before the Vice President elections- distance from voting, this reason was given

Before the Vice Presidential elections to be held in the country, two major regional parties have taken a big political step. Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) announced on Monday (08 September 2025) that they would not vote in the upcoming Vice Presidential elections. Both parties have taken this step with their political strategy and especially the urea crisis in Telangana and the development of Odisha.

BRS decision: focus on farmers’ suffering
KT Rama Rao, executive president of Bharat Rashtra Samithi, said that his party will not participate in the Vice Presidential elections. He alleged that the central governments – both Congress and BJP – have failed to resolve the huge shortage of urea in Telangana. Rama Rao said that the lack of urea has become so serious that there are clashes in the queue among the farmers. He clarified, “We will stay away from voting. We will not participate in it.” He also said that if the Vice President had an option of NOTA in the election, BRS could have used it.

Biju Janata Dal is also not supported
Odisha’s leading opposition party Biju Janata Dal (BJD) also announced on Monday that its MPs would not vote in the Vice Presidential elections. The decision was taken under the leadership of party president Naveen Patnaik. Bijad MP Sasmit Patra said that this decision is in line with the party’s policy, in which equally distance has been made from both BJP-Neet NDA and Congress-Netan India alliance. He said, “Our entire focus is on the development of the state and its 4.5 crore people.”

Vice Presidential election is to be held on 9 September
Preparations have been completed for the election of the 15th Vice President of India. Voting for this will be held on 9 September and the results will be declared on the same day. In this, the ruling NDA candidate C.P. Radhakrishnan and Joint Opposition candidate Justice B.K. There is a direct contest between Sudarshan Reddy. Members of both houses of Parliament will cast their votes from 10 am to 5 pm on Tuesday.

Reaction of ruling party
BJP has welcomed the decision to stay away from BJD’s voting. Senior BJP leader and Union Minister Juel Oram said that BJD has indirectly supported the NDA candidate. At the same time, Congress state president Bhakta Charan Das accepted this as the support of the BJP and said that it was an opportunity to prove its opposition role for the BJD.
