Central government extended a 5 -year ban on this organization, told the threat to India’s integrity

The notification states that the central government believes that NSCN-K has declared its goal of creating a sovereign Nagaland by separating from the Indian Union and incorporating the Naga dominated areas of the India-Myanma region.

71 cases registered against members

The notification stated, ‘Now, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (37 of 1967) (which will be further called the said Act) using the powers provided by the sub-section (one) of the three-three of [NSCN-K] It declares an ‘illegal organization’ with all its groups, branches and mask organizations.

The Ministry of Home Affairs said that several activities involving NSCN-K members have been mentioned between September 28, 2020 and April 30, 2025. Among them, 71 cases registered against its members, 56 chargesheets were filed and 35 members were prosecuted.

Center recommended to declare illegal organization

He said that 51 other criminal activities involved its members, arrest of 85 members and surrender by 69 members and 69 weapons, 52 magazines, 931 cartridges, 10 grenades, 150 detonators, three explosive gel tubes, 200 grams of trinitroleuine, one and a hundred kilograms of IEDs and 800 grams of other explosions were recovered.

He said that during this period, 13 underground members were killed in the action of police or security forces. The state governments of Nagaland, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh have also recommended to declare NSCN-K as an illegal organization under the illegal activities (prevention) Act (UAPA).

Threat of life of citizens and security forces

The notification stated, ‘The central government believes that the above activities of NSCN-K are harmful to India’s sovereignty and integrity and if they are not curbed immediately, NSCN-K may get organized again and can make itself armed again.’

The notification also said, ‘This organization can also expand its members, acquire state-of-the-art weapons, kill citizens and security forces and thus intensifies its anti-national activities. The central government believes that for the above reasons, NSCN-K is an illegal organization with groups, branches and mask organizations.

It is necessary to declare illegal organization

The Ministry of Home Affairs also said that it is also an opinion that there are situations that have been required to declare NSCN-K from September 28 as an illegal organization with all its groups, branches and mask organizations.

The notification stated, “Accordingly, using the powers provided by the provision of sub-section (three) of Section-three of the said Act, it is instructed that this notification will be effective for any order that can be done under Section-4 of the said Act, immediately for a period of 28 September, 2025 to five years, subject to any order.”

Two members of NSCN-K operate the organization

NSCN-K is a banned organization for decades, on which the ban is being extended every five years. Its leader, a Naga S. of Myanmar. S. Khaplang was killed in 2017 after leading the group for decades. Now the organization is operated by two of his colleagues. NSCN-K’s rival faction, NSCN-IM, is currently holding peace with the Central Government to find a permanent and peaceful solution to the problem of Nagaland’s seven decade-old extremism.
