Chetak and Cheetah will retire! Now the Indian Army will have 200 new light helicopters; Know what is their specialty?
India has again taken steps to replace its old -engine cheetahs and Chetak helicopters. These old helicopters have been responsible for many accidents due to modern technology, security and lack of better control. The army on Friday sought information for 120 monitoring and reconnaissance helicopters. At the same time, there are plans to buy 80 helicopters for the Indian Air Force. The Ministry of Defense has said that it is necessary to replace the old cheetah-chest with modern design light helicopters as soon as possible.
The characteristics and requirements of new helicopters
New helicopters will be able to monitor day and night, will be able to take some soldiers for special missions and will also work in support of the army on the ground. These helicopters will also do scouting work with helicopters.
Army’s long -term demand and HAL contribute
For the last two decades, the army has been demanding new light helicopters instead of about 350 old cheetah-cheetah helicopters. Currently HAL is making 187 lightly useful helicopters weighing 3 tons, of which 126 are for the army and 61 Air Force. After the arrival of these new helicopters, retirement of old helicopters will start from 2027, which will take about ten years to complete.
‘Make in India’ projects and challenges
The ‘Make in India’ scheme to make 60 useful helicopters for the Navy has still not started. The army has stated that through information they will decide the necessary technical details, decide the purchase process and identify potential vendors, in which Indian companies can cooperate with foreign manufacturers.
Problems due to old technology
Cheetahs and Chetak helicopters do not have modern flight accessories, such as glass cockpit and better control system, which help pilots during flight in bad weather and low visibility. This affects the credibility and security of these helicopters.
Failure in Kamov helicopter project from Russia
In 2015, there was a $ 2 billion deal on the ‘Make in India’ project of 200 Kamov-226T helicopters with Russia, which included 135 for the army and 65 helicopters for the Air Force, but the project could not succeed due to price and other reasons.
Specialty of light combat helicopter
Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) is a multi -purpose fighter helicopter designed for operation even in high altitude and difficult weather. It has modern avionics, night vision capacity, and advanced targeting systems, so that it can complete the mission in day and night and every season. LCH is capable of targeting enemy tanks, bunkers, drones and low-flying aircraft. Due to its mild and slippery design, it can also fly easily in hill and narrow places. It has air-to-air and air-to-ground weapons, rockets, and missiles, which proves to be very effective in giving a air support to the ground army.
