‘Citizenship took citizenship in 1983 and how to become voters in 1980’, person reached court against Sonia Gandhi, petition filed

A petition has been filed on Tuesday (September 2, 2025), demanding action against Sonia Gandhi, chairperson and Rajya Sabha member of the Congress Parliamentary Committee. The petition filed alleged that Sonia Gandhi’s name was included in the voter list three years before becoming an Indian citizen.

Section 175 (4) of BNSS, which gives the power to order a magistrate inquiry, under the application before Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Vaibhav Chaurasia, requesting the police to be directed to investigate the allegation that Sonia Gandhi became an Indian citizen in 1983, but his name was in the 1980 voter list.

Which documents were given by Gandhi to include names in the voter list in 1980,

On behalf of the complainant Vikas Tripathi, senior advocate Pawan Narang argued that according to some documents it is clear that Sonia Gandhi took citizenship on 30 April 1983. Narang said, ‘The reason for removing the name is not found anywhere. There may be two reasons for this either a person takes citizenship of another country or file Form 8 (application for improvement in details), but the condition is that the person is a citizen there. He asked, ‘What documents were given to the Election Commission when his name was included in the list in 1980?’

Police should be instructed to register FIR in appropriate sections

Narang claimed that there was some forgery in it and a public authority has been cheated. He said, ‘I am a limited request that the police should be instructed to register an FIR under appropriate sections. Whether or not an FIR is formed, it is the jurisdiction of the police.

Narang said that a notice can be issued to the police to file a situation report in the interim period. At the same time, the court adjourned the hearing of the case for September 10.
