India’s newly appointed head coach Khalid Jamil said on Sunday out of the CAFA Nations Cup National Camp of Curishi Striker Sunil Chhetri that it is just a preparation tournament for the important matches of the Asian Cup qualifying round to be held in October. Earlier this month, Jamil, who became the head coach of India in place of Manolo Markage, released a list of 35 potential players for the upcoming CAFA Nations Cup to be held in Tajikistan and Uzbekistan on Friday, which does not include Chhetri’s name.
Jamil did not say much, but made it clear that Chhetri’s October 9 (abroad) and 14 October (domestic) is expected to join the national team for the Asian Cup qualifying round matches against Singapore. Jamil said on the second day of the national camp, “He (Chhetri) is not in this camp because we are playing a tournament that will essentially work for our Asian Cup qualifier.”
He said, “I want to try some other players during this FIFA window. I talked to him about this. It is always a matter of happiness to have a player like him in the team and the doors are always open for him. “Sunil is an Indian football veteran,” Jamil said in a release by the All India Football Federation (AIFF). I have played against him, I have seen him playing on many occasions and he is one of my favorite players. He is an ideal for Indian football. ,
The national camp started on Saturday, in which 22 players are training while 13 other other Durand are serving the clubs for the cup and will soon join the camp. The CAFA Nations Cup will be the first international tournament of 48 -year -old Jamil and said that the tournament would be a good chance for his team to play against the best rivals.
Jamil said, “This will be India’s first participation in the Nations Cup and this will be a good opportunity for us to play against strong and best rivals like Tajikistan and Iran. This will definitely be beneficial for us for the preparation of AFC Asian Cup qualifier.
