Former Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan has been elected the new Vice President of India. In the Vice Presidential election held on Tuesday (September 9, 2025), National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate CP Radhakrishnan made opposition India alliance candidate and former Supreme Court Judge B.K. Sudarshan Reddy defeated the election with a margin of over 150 votes.
The most special thing in this election was that NDA candidate CP Radhakrishnan got more votes than the total number of NDA MPs. At the same time, India alliance candidate B.K. Sudarshan Reddy got less votes than the claim of 315 MPs from the Congress.

In the Vice Presidential elections, 767 MPs out of a total of 788 MPs of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha exercised their franchise. The counting of votes was held at 6 pm after the end of the election at 5 pm on Tuesday. In this, NDA candidate CP Radhakrishnan got 452 votes, while opposition India alliance candidate B.K. Sudarshan Reddy got 300 votes.
During the election, 15 votes received by the opposition India coalition candidate were considered illegal. At the same time, in proportion to the total number of MPs, the candidates needed 391 votes to win in the election of the post of Vice President. In this, CP Radhakrishnan went beyond this figure.

The electorate of the Vice Presidential election of India has a total of 788, out of which 781 members were included. In this, 233 elected members (currently 5 seats vacant) and 12 nominated members and 543 elected members (currently 1 seat vacant) in the Rajya Sabha.
At the same time, BJD, BRS and Shiromani Akali Dal boycotted this election. Let us know that BJD has 7 MPs in Rajya Sabha, BRS has MPs in Rajya Sabha, while both parties have not a single MP and Shiromani Akali Dal has only one MP Harsimrat Kaur in the Lok Sabha. In such a situation, there are a total of 12 MPs, including the sum of these three parties, who did not participate in the election. Apart from this, Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De) MPs Sarabjit Singh Khalsa and Amritpal Singh also boycotted this election. Due to which the total number of people boycotting the election increased to 14 and the total number of voters remained 767.

In this Vice Presidential election, CP Radhakrishnan got 25 votes in addition to support. Apart from NDA’s associate parties, 11 MPs of YSRCP led by Jagan Mohan Reddy supported Radhakrishnan. However, which party is the other 14 votes in support of CP Radhakrishnan, it has not been revealed yet.
