The ED took a major action on August 19 and conducted a search operation at several places in Delhi, Maharashtra, Gujarat, West Bengal, Goa, Haryana, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh. This action took place under the ongoing investigation against Nibu Vincent and his associates.

The investigation started from the FIR lodged in the Crime Branch of Goa Police, in which a case of delivery of 4.3 kg of cocaine was registered. Many digital and electronic devices, in addition, recovered several documents in ED’s red. Also, those bank accounts were also freed, which were being used for money laundering.

Trying to hide illegal money

Investigation has revealed that this drug syndicate tried to hide illegal money using layering technology. ED has found evidence that confirm international relations and cross -border connectivity. That is, this network was not limited to Goa, but spread over abroad.

The ED report states that this syndicate rotated the money earned from drugs through the shell company and benami account. Not only this, some foreign nationals involved in this also used to arrange travel tickets and logistic for Indian citizens, so that they could go abroad and smuggle drugs.

Accused arrested for drug smuggling

The investigation also revealed the role of a Zimbabwe national Tariro Mangavana. He used to make money laundering and travel arrangements for Indian citizens. According to the ED, eight Indian citizens were sent abroad through it, out of which four have been arrested on charges of drug smuggling in India and other countries. Due to this role, Tariro Mangwana was arrested under money laundering and the court has sent it to 3 days ED custody.

Not just drug smuggling, breaking the source

ED says that this action is part of the campaign being run under the drug -free India campaign. The aim of the agency is not just to catch drug smuggling, but to break the source of that money, which leads to this business. The ED says that the investigation is still going on and the properties purchased from all the beneficiaries, facilities and drugs will be detected.
