Even now 2,000 rupee notes worth Rs 6,017 crore: RBI

These notes worth Rs 6,017 crore are still in circulation after more than two years after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) removed the 2,000 rupee note. This information was given in the official data released on Friday. Bank notes of two thousand rupees remain a valid currency.

On May 19, 2023, the RBI announced the withdrawal of a bank note of Rs 2,000 from circulation. The RBI said in a statement that the total value of bank notes of Rs 2,000 in the trend was Rs 3.56 lakh crore at the end of business on May 19, 2023. It has come down to Rs 6,017 crore at the end of trading on 31 July 2025.

Thus, 98.31 percent of the Rs 2,000 bank notes, which remained in trend till May 19, 2023, has returned. The facility of replacing two thousand rupees bank note is available in 19 issue offices of the Reserve Bank from May 19, 2023.

Since October 9, 2023, the release offices of the Reserve Bank are also accepting a bank note of Rs 2,000 for individuals/institutions to deposit them in their bank accounts. Apart from this, people are sending 2,000 rupee notes from any post office in the country to any RBI issue office to deposit 2,000 rupee notes in their bank accounts.

These issues are in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Belapur, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Patna and Thiruvananthapuram.
