‘Farmers struggling with fertilizer shortage do not have any problem’, NHRC sought answers from the Chief Secretary and police of all states
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sent notice to the Chief Secretaries and senior police officers of all states and senior police officers, taking seriously the problems of farmers across the country on the issue of fertilizer. The Commission has directed that farmers should not have any problem in distributing fertilizer and the administration should not treat them inhuman or barbaric under any circumstances.
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) had received information and complaints that due to lack of fertilizer, farmers are facing difficulty and the administration has also come to know about misbehavior with them. On this, the Commission has asked the administration in its notice that what steps have been taken so far for the convenience of the farmers. Also, the states have been ordered to submit ‘Action Continuity Report’ within two weeks, in which measures to provide relief to farmers are mentioned in detail.
Nhrc Warned police and administration
NHRC has also made it clear that the administration should not adopt any inhuman or violent attitude with the farmers working in the fields. The Commission warned the police and administration that the rights of farmers should be respected and keep the supply of fertilizer smooth.
Now the Chief Secretary and police officers of all the states will have to send the action report to the NHRC within two weeks, which will mention the availability of fertilizer and the steps taken to improve the behavior with the farmers.
The state’s states are facing shortage of urea and DAP
The situation has remained worrying about the shortage of fertilizer across the country, farmers in many states like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Bihar and Telangana are facing shortage of fertilizer like urea and DAP, due to which farmers have to wait for hours in long queues.
