Flood havoc in Talangana, 5 farmers trapped in drain by helicopter

Five farmers were trapped in the floods caused by heavy rains near Narmala drain in Gambhirvat Mandal in Rajanna Sirsilla district of Telangana. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) conducted a successful rescue operation with the help of army helicopters to save these farmers safely.

This incident has highlighted the readiness of local administration and disaster management. Due to heavy rains, the water level in Narmala drain near Upper Maner Dam suddenly increased. Meanwhile, five farmers Jangam Swamy, Pitla Narasimhulu, Dhanyboina Swamy, Pitla Mahesh and Pitla Swami went to work in the fields near the dam in Gambhirvipat Mandal. Due to the sudden flood, they got stuck in the middle of the drain.

NDRF and SDRF team in rescue operations

District Collector Sandeep Kumar Jha and Superintendent of Police Mahesh B.K. Geete immediately started rescue work. Teams of NDRF and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were involved in the rescue operation. Initially, drones were used to deliver food and water to trapped farmers.

Subsequently, all five farmers were safely rescued on Thursday (August 28, 2025) with the help of army helicopters. The District Collector and Superintendent of Police monitored the campaign and appealed to the local people not to go to the flood -affected areas.

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs and Karimnagar MP detainee Sanjay Kumar spoke to the trapped farmers over the phone and assured them to be patient. Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar also supported rescue operations.

This incident has underlined the challenges caused by heavy rains in the region. The Gambhirpet Mandal recorded 92.5 mm rainfall, due to which 83,256 cusecs of water flowed in Upper Maner Dam. The administration has advised the people to be vigilant and stay away from flood -affected areas.
