Ganesh Utsav: Farewell to Bappa after one and a half days in Mumbai, more than 60 thousand statues were immersed
The glory of Ganeshotsav in Mumbai is made on seeing it. Like every year, this time also devotees arrived to immerse the statues of Bappa in large numbers. According to officials, more than 60,000 Ganesh idols were immersed on Friday after one and a half days. Of these, about 29,600 statues were of Plaster of Paris (POP).
Immersion occurs on different days
Ganeshotsav lasts for 10 days, but devotees immerse the idols on different days according to their faith and tradition. Many people leave Bappa after one and a half days of establishment, while some people immerse the 5th and 7th day. This time this festival started from August 27 and by Friday morning a total of 60,177 statues had been immersed.
Eco friendly statues promoted
According to the BMC, in the immersed statues, 29,683 POPs were made and 30,494 idols were made of soil, which are completely eco -friendly. This year, increasing number of soil statues is considered a positive sign.
Artificial pond created for immersion
The Municipal Corporation has made preparations on a large scale keeping in mind the convenience of the devotees and the safety of the environment. This time, in addition to about 70 natural reservoirs such as beaches, lakes and chaupatis, about 290 artificial ponds have been prepared. So that people can easily immerse their Ganpati Bappa and do not increase the crowd on natural water bodies.
BMC is continuously spreading awareness to reduce water pollution. Appeal has been made to the citizens that those who have brought home Ganesh idols home, they should immerse them in drums or buckets. At the same time, it has been advisable to immerse the statues of POP smaller than 6 feet in artificial ponds.
