How much has the impact on India’s exports with Trump’s tariff? Government said- ’55 percent of total business …’

Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary said on Monday (August 11, 2025) that 25 percent of the US tariff fee will affect the US about 55 percent of the total trade exports of India. In a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary gave this information.

He also said that the government gives supreme importance to the welfare of farmers, entrepreneurs, exporters, MSMEs and will take all necessary steps to protect our national interests. He said, “Different factors like demand, quality and contractual arrangements will determine the impact on India’s exports.”

25 percent tariff fee from 7 August

The minister was questioned whether the government has any assessment of the impact of America’s mutual tariff on Indian goods? He said that it is estimated that about 55 percent of India’s total export price to the US will be subject to this mutual tariff.

He said that it is proposed to impose retaliation at the rate of 25 percent from August 7 on some items exported from India to America. US President Donald Trump has also announced an additional 25 percent fee from August 27. With this, the total fee on Indian goods has now been 50 percent.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor’s reaction to tariff

At the same time, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor also reacted to increase America’s export duty. Reacting to the 50 percent tariff imposed on India recently imposed on India, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor had said that India should also protect its interests.

Tharoor said that what is happening is worrying. A country with which we had close relations with and we were working as a strategic partner, if that country has changed its behavior then India will have to consider many things. Perhaps in the coming two-three weeks, we can talk and find a way out.
