Hyderabad: Dead body found 85 km away in flood, cousin still missing

After heavy rains on 13 September in Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana, torrential rains submerged the entire city. The body of one of the two youths missing in this disaster was recovered on Thursday (September 18, 2025), colliding with the strong current of the Musi River near Sangam Bima Katwa of Waligonda division in Yadadri Bhubanagiri district.

The deceased has been identified as Arjun (26) of Habib Nagar, whose body reached about 85 km away. Teams of Disaster Response Force (DRF) sent the body for postmortem, while the search for his relative Ramu (25) is still going on.

Arjun slipped in trying to catch the chair

The incident took place in Mangar Basti of Afzal Sagar Nala area at around 9 pm on Sunday night. Arjun slipped in an attempt to catch a chair flowing in the water of the draining drain due to heavy rains. Cousin Ramu, who got down to save them, also got swept away. Joint teams of DRF, Hydra and GHMC started the search operation from Monday, but the boom of the Mousi river made the works difficult.

The DRF officials gave information to the family and identified the body. Arjun’s wife Shakuntala, who is in shock with a few months old, said, ‘He simply slipped and disappeared. Our life has stopped.

Many areas submerged due to heavy rains in Hyderabad

This incident again exposes the old flood problem of Hyderabad. In Sunday’s rains, many areas of the city like Nampalli, Afzal Sagar, Parsigutta, Sheikhpet, Manikonda, Golconda, Mehdipattanam, Toi Chowki, Lucky Bridge, Jubali Hills, Film Nagar, Somajiguda, Panjgutta and Amirpet were submerged.

According to the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS), more than 12 centimeters of rainfall was recorded in a few hours, making roads rivers. A person named Sunny was also swept away by a wall collapse in Parsigutta, whose body was yet to be recovered. Residents of Vinoba Nagar Colony said that water spread on the roads due to blocked narrow drains.

CM Revanth Reddy instructed the team

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has instructed immediate relief. He advised those living in low -height areas to be vigilant and deployed three DRF teams. The Indian Metiyarological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of light to moderate rainfall till 19 September. Experts say that illegal construction, negligence of drainage and garbage accumulation in drains are the root cause of this crisis.
