The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) targeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday (August 09, 2025) for not giving an affidavit on his claim related to ‘vote theft’ and said that if the Congress leader does not trust the Election Commission, he should resign on ‘moral basis’ from the membership of Lok Sabha.
BJP national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia told Congress Parliamentary Party President Sonia Gandhi and party MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra that if they do not believe in elections, they should resign from the membership of Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha.
There is no doubt on the goodness of the Election Commission
Bhatia said at a press conference at the BJP headquarters here, “Rahul Gandhi makes unfounded allegations in front of the media and then refuses to give when the constitutional institution demands evidence and signed affidavit.” The BJP spokesperson read part of an old decision of the Supreme Court, saying that the court had said that there was no doubt about the goodness of the Election Commission and it is well known that the Election Commission has created its prestige as a fair institution in the last few years.
Bhatia said, ‘Rahul Gandhi, if you do not trust the comments of the Election Commission and the Supreme Court, then do one thing, first you resign from the membership of the Lok Sabha. Priyanka Gandhi, you also resign, Sonia Gandhi, you too should resign on the least moral grounds, because you are questioning the same Election Commission.
CM of Karnataka, Telangana and Himachal Pradesh resigns
He said, ‘Then you go to the Supreme Court, High Court and the public.’ Bhatia has also demanded that the Chief Ministers of Congress -ruled Karnataka, Telangana and Himachal Pradesh should also resign, because their top leaders do not trust the Election Commission.
Bhatia said, ‘Whatever is favorable for you, you accept. Whatever is inconvenient, you reject it and attack the Election Commission, it will not work. Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, retaliated on Friday after the Election Commission asked for signing an affidavit or apologizing and said that he had taken oath of constitution within Parliament.
Rahul Gandhi’s charge in ‘Vote Rights Rally’
Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi while addressing the ‘Vote Rights Rally’ held at ‘Freedom Park’ in Bengaluru, also said that the Karnataka government should investigate the inclusion of fake voters in the state during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He said, ‘The Election Commission has asked me to give affidavit and signed the affidavit and give information. I have sworn in the Constitution inside the Parliament, in front of the Constitution.
Describing Gandhi’s claim of ‘vote theft’ as false, Bhatia said, ‘Rahul alias’ chaotic element’ has now become Rahul aka ‘destroyer’. He wants to destroy the Constitution of India and Indian democracy. He also accused the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha of being ‘immature’ and launching a war against the constitutional institutions by threatening the officials of the Election Commission.
