Former Chief Justice DY Chandrachud of India has advised people who want to become a lawyer to ignore the insult of the opponents, as this will not help them win the case. He said that he is following this principle even after retirement.
Justice Chandrachud, while addressing the law students during the Vishnupant Advant Lecture Series on Saturday (August 09, 2025), said that advocacy is a stressful profession and the mental health concerns of lawyers should be resolved in a systematic way.
Give priority to morality
He also said that lawyers should re -establish their identity as a convenience of justice before everything. He emphasized that morality should be given priority. Justice Chandrachud said that there is no ‘shortcut’ of success and the students of law should be a lifetime learning and independent thinker. Citing the advice given to the lawyers of the lawyer of the law and experienced advocate Fali Nariman, former Chief Justice said that always be honest and responsible for his opinion.
Know the law and facts deeply
Addressing the law students, he said that know your law and facts deeply and keep in mind that you should not deviate in an attempt to justify your matter through old decisions.
