The employees of Canara Bank in Kerala have protested against banning beef in the office canteen. The protesting employees have accused the new manager of the bank for this. A new bank manager has recently taken over in the office of Canara Bank in Kochi, Kerala, who is originally from Bihar. The new branch manager of the bank has banned the serving of beef in the office canteen after taking over. This order of the manager has been opposed by many employees of the bank.
Bank employees have protested against the branch manager under the leadership of Bank Employees Federation of India (BeFi). Initially, the opposition of bank employees was against the alleged derogatory behavior and mental harassment of the manager, but when the employees came to know about the beef ban, they turned their protests towards this. The protesters protested and organized a beef fest outside the bank’s office, in which beef and parotta were served.
What did union leaders say,
According to India Today, Bank Employees Federation of India (Befi) leader S.K. S. Anil said, ‘A small canteen runs inside the bank, in which beef is served on a few selected days. The manager told the canteen employees that from now on, beef should not be served here. This bank runs according to the guidelines of the Constitution, which states that food is a matter of personal choice. Every person in India has the right to eat his selected food. We are not pressurizing anyone to eat beef. This is just a way to register our protest.
Leaders of political parties also responds to the issue of beef
The issue of not serving beef in the canteen of Canara Bank in Kochi became so big that its protests also caught the attention of politics. Leftist Independent MLA of Kerala K.K. T. Jalil has supported bank employees protesting on this issue.
He shared a post on his Facebook and said, ‘What to wear, what to eat and what to think, no person sitting on a high position can decide. This soil is red. The heart of this land is red. Wherever the red flag is hoisted, you can speak fearlessly and work against the fascists. No one can harm you. When the communists are united, the comrades will not let anyone weaken the good of the public by taking the saffron flag. This is the world and this is the history of the world!
