Independence Day 2025: ‘Education and health rights are being taken away from the state’, CM Stalin targeted the center on Independence Day
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin alleged on Friday (August 15, 2025) that while the states need more rights, on the other hand their rights are being taken away in important areas like education. Stalin advocated the constitution -based steps to re -establish the role of states in terms of distribution of powers and distribution of financial resources.
Stalin said in his address to ‘Fort St. George’ on the occasion of Independence Day that former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, the late M. Karunanidhi, ensured the democratic rights to all the Chief Ministers to hoist the national flag on Independence Day.
Continuous decline in power share
He said that the distribution of powers between the Center and the states in the constitution is clearly defined, so that the two can serve the public together. He said that however, due to changes in the political scenario in the last 75 years, the role of the state governments and their power share has steadily declined, which is unfortunate.
The Chief Minister alleged, “In the last few years, the Center is trying to take away the rights of state governments in various areas.” He said that the states have close relations with the public and they need more rights to meet the expectations of the people, but on the contrary, the rights of states are constantly being taken away in major areas like education and health.
Constitution based action is the only way
Stalin also alleged that the states have been made dependent on the Center through central government schemes, distribution of money, central laws and court decisions. He said that the only way to rectify this situation and reconstruct the role of states in the just distribution of powers and resources between the Center-State is the constitution-based action.
The Chief Minister said that on the occasion of this Independence Day, he is strong that the appropriate time has come to take initial steps in this direction and complete the process. He also said that if a state government has to struggle continuously for its valid rights and funds, arguments and knock the door of the courts, then this is not auspicious sign for the federal structure.
Struggle for freedom
He said, ‘This affects the development of not only the state, but the whole country. India can only get a reputation in the world as a strong, united nation, when every state progresses with its unique identity and self -reliance.
Stalin finally said, “It is our duty and responsibility to implement the high ideals of Tamil Nadu across India.” The Chief Minister said that people of all states, religions, languages and cultures fought for freedom and won, so the founders of the nation wished that India became a country of people of all classes in the coming time.
