India Bangladesh Relation: India imposed a ban on many items coming from Bangladesh border, ‘neighboring country’ is of great advantage from American tariff

India has banned the import of many items bordering the neighboring country Bangladesh. According to the order issued by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, now the situation on the Indo-Bangladesh border will not be approved to import goods banned from any border post.

The government has now approved the import of these things from Bangladesh from Nhawa Sheva port in Mumbai only. The things that have been banned from neighboring Bangladesh, which have been banned, include bleached and bleached woven clothes, twisted, cord, jute rope, jute sacks and bags etc.

What did the Ministry of Commerce and Industry say in its order?

The notification issued by the ministry states that these bans are being implemented under the powers given by the Foreign Trade (Development and Regulation) Act, 1992. Although the reasons behind the fresh steps have not been mentioned in the order, such measures by the government are often associated with quality control, business balance concerns or safety of domestic industries.

This order signed by Additional Secretary, Government of India and Director General of External Affairs Trade Ajay Bhadu has come into force immediately. Let us know that the jute sector has historically been a sensitive area in the Indo-Bangladesh trade relations, because both countries are the major productive and exporting countries of jute products.

Bangladesh benefit from tariff on India

Bangladesh competes with India in the textile sector and now Bangladesh will benefit from America by imposing 50 percent tariff on India. India-Bangladesh trade was US $ 12.9 billion in 2023-24. India’s exports to Bangladesh in 2024–25 stood at US $ 11.46 billion, while the imports were just US $ 2 billion.
