In the KPa Nations Cup 2025 match played on Monday, India defeated Oman 3–2 in a penalty shoot out to finish third in the CAFA Nations Cup football tournament. India has defeated its rival of West Asia for the first time in history. The Indian team defeated Oman for the first time in an international football match. The match was 1–1 after regular and extra time, after which the shoot out was resorted to for the result.

Both teams could not score any goal in the first half. In the 55th minute, Yamadi scored a goal for Oman. In the 80th minute, India gained equal with the help of Undata Singh’s goal. Earlier, the better ranked team in the shoot out lost their first two opportunities, while goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu stopped the final penalty and ensured India’s victory in the third-fourth-fourth-ranked classification match.

In the shootout, Lalianjuala Chhangte, Rahul Bheke and Jitin MS scored goals from India while Anwar Ali and Udanta Singh failed to score goals. Both teams finished second in their group, which gave them a chance to play in the third place. India has lost 6 out of 9 matches against Oman since 2000. The previous match between the two teams was played in March 2021 which was a 1–1 draw.
