The Women’s Hockey Asia Cup 2025 has started in Hangzo city of China. During this time, the Indian women’s hockey team started their campaign with an excellent win by defeating Thailand 11–0. In this match played at Gongshu Canal Sports Park Hockey Field, India defeated Thailand unilaterally, showing aggressive games. The Indian women’s team finished last in the Europe Phase of the FIH Pro League this year, but made a great start in the Asia Cup.
Starting with a win against the lower ranking Thailand in the first match of the Women’s Asia Cup is good for the players. Veteran goalkeeper Savita and drag flicker and star forward Deepika appeared to be weak due to Deepika’s injury. But due to the brilliant game of Mumtaz Khan, Udita and Beauty Dung Dung, the Indian team won an easy win.
India maintained their dominance from the beginning and scored a great goal. Mumtaz Khan, Idta, Beauty Dung Dung scored two goals each while Sangeeta Kumar, Navneet Kaur, Lalremasiami, Sharmila Devi and Rutuja Dadaso Pisal scored one goal each. India took a 5–0 lead in the first half. After this, India’s invasion in the second half intensified and by the end of the game, Team India scored 11 goals.
The Indian team is in Pool B where it is accompanied by Japan, Thailand and Singapore. While Pool A includes hosts China, Korea, Malaysia and Chinese Taipei. The tournament will run from 5 to 14 September. After Thailand, India will now face Japan tomorrow i.e. on 6 September and from Singapore on 8 September.
