India will bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games Preparations in Ahmedabad

The last date for submission of documents to officially bid for India for the right to host 2030 sports for India is 31 August. Interestingly, Canada is out of the race for host and this has increased India’s possibilities.

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) formally approved India’s dialect for hosting the Grand Sports to be held in 2030 today. This decision was taken in its special general meeting (SGM) in New Delhi. India has already submitted an interest letter for the 2030 Commonwealth Games and has supported Ahmedabad as hosting city. The last date for submission of documents to officially bid for India for the right to host 2030 sports for India is 31 August. Interestingly, Canada is out of the race for host and this has increased India’s possibilities.

A team of Commonwealth Sports Department officials led by Commonwealth Sports Director Darren Hall recently came to Ahmedabad and inspected the venues and met the officials of the Gujarat government. Later this month, a large delegation is expected to come to the city again, as the time limit for submission of documents is coming close. Significantly, India has earlier hosted the Commonwealth Games in the national capital Delhi in 2010. The Commonwealth Games General Assembly will decide the host country in Glasgow in November this year. If India hosts the 2030 Commonwealth Games, it will be a major positive step in its efforts to host the Olympic Games in 2036.

India finished second in the table with a total of 101 medals – 38 gold, 27 silver and 36 bronze. Australia topped the table with 74 gold, 55 silver and 48 bronze medals, while England finished third with 37 gold medals. In early March this year, the IOA wrote a letter showing interest in hosting the 2030 Commonwealth Games. India wanted to host all the sports that were removed from the 2026 Commonwealth Games to ensure that its medal table was not affected in the event in Glasgow.
