India’s first reaction to Trump-Putin’s meeting, the Ministry of External Affairs said- ‘only with talks and diplomacy …’

India welcomed the summit between US President Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin on Friday (15 August 2025) in Alaska. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs issued an official statement saying that the world wants the end of the war as soon as possible.

India praises Trump-Putin Summit

Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said, “India welcomes the summit meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska. His leadership towards peace is quite commendable. The India appreciates the progress made at the summit.” He said that the path ahead can only go out of dialogue and diplomacy.

No deal took place between Trump-Putin

The two leaders held a brief joint press conference after a meeting between Trump and Putin for about 3 hours. No agreement was announced nor any leader answered questions. Trump described this discussion as very useful. The US has recently imposed 25 percent of India to buy oil from Russia. Prior to his meeting with Putin, Trump claimed that Russia lost a major oil customer due to an additional 25 percent tariff on India.

The meeting with Putin was useful- Trump

After the meeting in Alaska, Trump said, “I hope that the agreement we have reached will help us to bring that goal (find solutions) and pave the way for peace in Ukraine. I think our meeting was very useful. There were many issues that we had agreed.”

Trump mysteriously said, “There are some big agreements that we have not reached yet, but we have made some progress. An agreement is probably most important, but we have a very good possibility of reaching it. We could not reach there, but we have a very good possibility of reaching there.”
