The Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted on Saturday (August 23, 2025) to investigate the allegations to the complainant who was allegedly accused of allegedly killing, rape and burying bodies at a place called Dharmasthal in Karnataka during the last two decades, was arrested by the officials on Saturday (August 23, 2025).

He told that till now the identity of the person appearing before the investigation team wearing a mask before the investigation team is C.N. Has been in the form of Chinnaiya. Chinaiya was produced before the first class judicial magistrate Vijayendra and the SIT sought 10 days of custody for a detailed investigation. Officials said that the court accepted the request of the SIT.

Arrest after discrepancies found

SIT and its head Pranab Mohanty questioned Chinaiya till late night on Friday (August 22, 2025). Officials said that arrests were made after the statements and discrepancies were found in the documents provided. Later, after a long interrogation, he was taken for medical examination.

Former cleaning worker Chinaiya has claimed that he worked in the Dharmasthal between 1995 and 2014 and in the same shrine, the bodies of many people, including women and minors, were forced to bury the bodies. Chinaiya had alleged that some bodies had indicated sexual harassment. He has also recorded a statement before the magistrate in this regard.

SIT will take further decisions for further excavation

The SIT had excavated at several places identified by the complainant in the wild areas on the banks of the Netravati River in the Dharmasthal, where some skeletal remains have been found at two places so far. Karnataka Home Minister Ji Parmeshwar recently said in the Assembly that if the SIT finds the allegations of the complainant false, then action can be taken against him under the law.

He said that till now only excavation has been done, the investigation has not started yet and not the government, but the SIT investigating the matter will take a decision about further digging. Meanwhile, police sources said that the complainant has been arrested after the statements of his alleged first wife and a former colleague.

First wife gave a statement against the accused

According to sources, both have described the complaints of the complainant as false. Police said that a woman, who described herself as the first wife of the complainant, had already issued a statement against her. According to the police, he told the press, ‘He is not a good person. He used to harass me and my children. His statements related to the Dharmasthal Burry case are not true. He must have given such statements for money.

Talking to the media on Thursday (August 21, 2025), the woman said, ‘I married her in 1999. We stayed together for seven years. He used to beat me. We have a son and a daughter. He was a cleaning worker in the shrine and cleaned the toilet.

Conspiracy to discredit patron

Raju, a friend of the complainant, also said on Wednesday that his claims are false. Raju had said that the complainant’s statement of burying hundreds of dead bodies in the shrine is far from the truth. It is claimed that Raju worked as a cleaning worker with the complainant in the shrine 10 years ago for four years.

Raju said, ‘The allegations made by the complainant are far from the truth. It is not right to make such allegations that defame a pilgrim city and its mentor. He told that the SIT had questioned him for more than half an hour regarding the Dharmasthal case.

Dead body buried only after police permission

Raju said, ‘I have given them all the information that I know. Me and the complainant have also worked together near the bathing ghat, Bahubali Betta and the temple. We were given food and good salary. We were neighbors there, although we have seen many mutilated bodies of men and women. Some were hanging on trees. We used to take down bodies from trees, but we did not bury any body, they were sent through ambulance.

Raju said, ‘I don’t know why he has made such allegations. He may have made such allegations for money. Nobody asked us to bury any unknown body. We never buried any dead body without the permission of the police.
