Eminent British-Indian economist, MP and people intellectual Lord Meghnad Desai died on Tuesday at the age of 85. Sources close to his family in London said that he died in a hospital in Gurugram after a recent health problem. Desai, who was awarded the Padma Bhushan, was born in 1940 in Vadodara, Gujarat. After receiving PhD in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania in 1963, he moved to London in 1965 to enroll in the London School of Economics, where he taught for nearly four decades. In 1991, he was promoted to the House of Lords in Britain as a colleague of the Labor Party.
