The world’s number-1 chess player Magnus Carlson made a great comeback to the Freestyle Chess Grand Slam, defeating Arjun Eigi 2–0 and R 3–1 to R Pragyananda. At the same time, Carlson will compete with Hikaru Nakamura of USA for the third place.
Carlson was given the R. of India in the intermediate round. Before Pragyanandadha suffered defeat in the round, and had to resort to a tiebreaker with a win in the second round.
Let me tell you, both matches were quite exciting for Carlson as earlier Pragyananda had managed to achieve the opportunity to win the tournament. The Indian player started with a win against the world’s best player in the first game of this mini-match, but the Norway player returned to the ‘Return Game’ and won the tournament by winning.
At the same time, Arjun took an edge in the first game but could not maintain it while Carlson proved to be the best in the second game. Arjun will take on the US Fabiano Karuana for the fifth-ranked play-off in the last day’s otherjas, while Pragyananda has to face another American Vesley So for the seventh place.
Meanwhile, Hikaru Nakamura won two compatriot players, Vesley Soi in the intermediate round and the lower bracket in the semi -finals to make a chance to make a place on the podium in Las Vegas.
