Meaning of Milad-un-Nabi
Milad-un-Nabi means the birth of the Prophet and it is also called Maulid in many places, which means giving birth. This day is an opportunity to remember the teachings of the Prophet and his life. Prophet Mohammed was born in Mecca in about 570 AD. He is considered the founder and final prophet of Islam. At the age of six, he was orphans and raised by grandfather and uncle. At the age of 40, he received the first message of Allah from the angel Jibril Alaihissalam in the diamond cave of Mecca. This message later became part of the Quran. The Prophet spent his entire life to spread the message of humanity.
In India and other countries
In countries like India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, processions are taken out, religious meetings are held and sweets are distributed in house to house. Countries like Saudi Arabia and Qatar do not celebrate it, because there is a tradition of Wahabwad and Salafiism, which does not consider events like birthdays appropriate.
Message of Baravafat
Milad-un-Nabi is not a celebration of the Prophet’s birthday, but this day reminds us of the message of their simple lifestyle, compassion, brotherhood and monotheism. This festival is a symbol of advancing the education of humanity and equality.
Who is called Baravafat?
Baravafat is also called Eid e Milad or Meeladunnabi. It is a very important festival of Islam. This day is special because Prophet Hazrat Mohammad Saheb was born on this day and on this day he was also visited. People of the Muslim community celebrate this day with great enthusiasm and reverence. Hazrat Mohammad Saheb is considered to be Rahmatul-Lill-Almin i.e. Rahmat for the whole world. He gave the message of truth, honesty and brotherhood to humanity. It is said that before his death, Mohammad Saheb remained ill for twelve days and that is why this festival is called Baravafat. Bara means twelve and Wafat means death.
