Tokyo Olympics silver medalist Mirabai secured the first place by breaking the record of total, snatch and clean and jerk in the Commonwealth Championship by lifting a total weight of 193 kg in the 48 kg weight category of women.
Let me tell you, 31 -year -old player used to participate in 49 kg before this but this weight class is no longer included in the Olympics. Meerabai participated in a competition for the first time after the Paris Olympics in August last year. She finished fourth at the Paris Olympics.
At the same time, due to injury, she could not participate in any competition in the last one year, due to which it took her time to get the rhythm. She stumbled in her first attempt of 84 kg in snatch. His right knee discomfort appeared, but in the second attempt he took up the same weight. His third attempt of 89 kg also failed. Due to no real competition, Meerabai was actually fighting herself.
Meerabai started by carrying 105 kg in Clean and Jerk. They increased it to 109 kg, but could not fulfill their last attempt of 113 kg. Irin Henry of Malaysia won the silver medal by lifting 161 kg (73 kg + 88 kg) weight, while Nicole Roberts of Wales won the bronze medal by lifting 150 kg (70 kg + 80 kg). Meerabai made a successful comeback in 48 kg in this way. She won her World Championship title in the same weight category and two medals in the Commonwealth Games but after 2018 she was presenting a challenge in the 49 kg category. Soumya Dalvi won the gold medal in the junior category.
