Mughal Emperor Akbar: When Akbar conquered Gujarat, got a loud door made in the joy of victory

The identity of Agra is not limited to the Taj Mahal. Fatehpur Sikri is also an important part of history here. Sometimes it used to be the capital of the Mughals and today UNESCO is famous as the World Heritage Site. The Buland Darwaza here is the most prominent attraction, which is included in the list of every tourist coming to Agra. Akbar won Gujarat on 2 September. The Mughal Emperor Akbar captured Gujarat in 1573, making it part of the Mughal Empire.

In the year 1602 AD, Emperor Akbar built a high door in memory of the victory over Gujarat. It took about 12 years to complete. This door made of red sandstone has a glimpse of Hindu and Persian architecture. The verses of the Quran and the biblical rows are engraved on the door columns, which also make it a symbol of religious tolerance.

Elevated door architecture
The height of the elevated door is 53.63 meters. Its width is 35 meters. 42 stairs made to reach the gate, this door opens directly towards Jama Masjid and courtyard. From such a height, the entire Fatehpur city and surrounding views are seen.

How to reach Fatehpur Sikri?
The distance from Agra to Fatehpur Sikri is about 47 kilometers. To go here, it can be easily accessible from Agra with the help of cab or auto. Bus facility is also available to Buland Darwaza.

Akbar’s biography
Akbar’s birth on 15 October 1542 is currently located in Sindh province of Pakistan. Akbar was the greatest of the Mughal emperors of India. He ruled from 1556 to 1605 and expanded Mughal power in most parts of the Indian subcontinent. To maintain the unity of his empire, Akbar adopted such programs that won loyalty to the non-Muslim population of his state. They improved their central administration and strengthened it and also mixed their financial systems together and included tax depositing processes.
