Parul Dhadwal enhances the military heritage of the family, the first female officer of 5th generation joins the army
A historic moment in the Indian Army came when Lieutenant Parul Dhadwal joined the Indian Army as the first female officer of the 5th generation and carried forward the military heritage of his family.
Parul Dhadwal received a commission in the Ordnance Corps of the Indian Army after passingout from the prestigious Officers Training Academy (OTA) in Chennai on Saturday (September 6, 2025). He has also been awarded the President’s Gold Medal for securing first place in his course, which outlines his extraordinary dedication and merit.
Parul’s background and family
Parul Dhadwal belongs to Janouri village in Hoshiarpur district of Punjab, which is known for his strong military tradition. She is a fifth generation member of her family, who is serving in the Indian Army. Prior to this, Parul’s father Major General K.K. S. Dhadwal and his brother Captain Dhananjay Dhadwal are also included. Both Parul’s father and brother are serving in 20 Sikh regiments.
Dhadwal family’s military heritage
The military heritage of Parul Dhadwal’s family is 129 years old, which is his father Major General K.K. S. Dhadwal’s great -grandfather Subedar begins with Harnam Singh, who served in 74 Punjabi Regiment. After him, in the second generation, Parul’s great -grandfather Major L. S. Dhadwal has served in 3 Jat, while in the third generation, Parul’s cousin Colonel Daljit Singh Dhadwal and Brigadier Jagat Jamwal have also served in the army.
At the same time, in the fourth generation, Parul’s father Major General Kuleshwar Singh Dhadwal is also posted in the Indian Army and now Parul has become the first woman officer of the family to join the Indian Army with his brother Captain Dhananjay Dhadwal in the fifth generation.
