An official delegation will visit the US on Monday (September 22, 2025) under the leadership of Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal. The purpose of this delegation’s American visit will be to be included in high -level trade talks.
An official statement has been issued by the Government of India on Saturday (September 20, 2025) about Piyush Goyal’s US visit. The main objective of this visit is to further strengthen the bilateral economic relations between India and the US and to resolve the important business issues related to the new tariff imposed on India by US President Donald Trump.
The meeting was held between the chief negotiaters of India and America
This development in relations between India and the US has taken place at a time when the trade agreement between New Delhi and Washington has come new after the recent positive diplomatic exchange. Last Wednesday (September 17, 2025), US chief negotiator Brendon Lynch and his Indian counterpart Rajesh Aggarwal discussed the proposed bilateral trade agreement (BTA) in New Delhi throughout the day.

After this meeting, the Union Commerce Ministry said, ‘The conversation with the US team was quite positive and both sides also agreed to finalize the agreement as soon as possible and in a mutually profitable manner.
Tariff talks between India and America
The visit of Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal is taking place at a time when India and US President Donald Trump are engaged in conversation with the widespread mutual tariffs imposed by Donald Trump. Trump imposed a wide tariff on India in August last month.
The US first implemented 25 percent tariff on India from 7 August. After this, on August 27, an additional 25 percent tariff was again imposed as a punishment for purchasing Russian oil. With this, the total American tariff on India became 50 percent. Although Washington’s rhetoric was quite strong in August, but in the last few weeks, a big change has been seen in the diplomatic environment.
