Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the Pilot Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla of the Space Mission on Monday (August 18, 2025) at the International Space Station (ISS). During this, PM Modi congratulated Shubhanshu Shukla for the success of the mission. A video of PM Modi’s meeting with Shubhanshu has also surfaced.
PM Modi welcomed warmly
Prime Minister Modi warmly welcomed Shubhanshu Shukla. He shook hands with Shubhanshu, hugged and congratulated him on his achievement by placing his hand on his shoulder. Shubhanshu showed pictures of the space trip to the Prime Minister on the tablet. Shukla also presented the ‘Mission Patch’ of the Axiom-4 mission to the Prime Minister. He also shared pictures taken from the international space station with Modi.

Opposition boycotted special session on Shubhanshu Shukla’s mission
Earlier, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiran Rijiju had appealed to the opposition parties to attend the special discussion on Shukla’s mission and India’s space program in the Lok Sabha. However, many opposition leaders did not attend this session demanding a discussion on alleged voter fraud.
Shubhanshu Shukla was strongly welcomed on returning to India
Astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla was strongly welcomed after his historic visit to India on Sunday (August 18, 2025). A large number of people gave a grand welcome to Shukla, waving the tricolor and playing the drum at the airport here. Shukla was welcomed by Union Minister Jitendra Singh, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and ISRO President V. Narayanan. His father Shambhu Dayal Shukla and sister Shuchi Mishra from Lucknow also reached the airport to meet him.

Shubhanshu Shukla was part of Axiom-4 space mission
Shukla was part of the Axiom-4 space mission which left Florida on 25 June and reached the international space station on 26 June. Three other astronauts – Pagi Whitson (America), Slavose Uznansky -Visnivsky (Poland) and Tibor Kapu (Hungary) performed several experiments during the 18 -day mission.
