PM Modi’s visit to Japan amid American tariff controversy, what will be the focus by the Prime Minister himself

Prime Minister Narendra Modi left for a five -day visit to Japan and China on Thursday (August 28, 2025). The main objective of this journey is to strengthen bilateral, strategic and economic relationships. This tour is considered very important amidst the American tariff controversy. First of all, PM Modi will go to Japan, where he will take part in the 15th India-Japan annual summit. The tour is taking place at the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba.

Focus on strategic and economic partnership
PM Modi said that during the visit, both countries will work on the next phase of their strategic and global partnership. It will expand cooperation in new techniques like artificial intelligence (AI) and semiconductor along with increasing business, investment and defense relations.

Cultural relationships strengthened
Modi said that this journey will be an opportunity to further strengthen the civilized bonds and cultural relations of India and Japan. After Japan, Modi will go to China from 30 August to 1 September. Here he will attend the 25th meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Sangathan (SCO) in Tianjin on the invitation of President Xi Chinfing.

India’s role and commitment
PM Modi said that India is an active and creative member of SCO. During its chairmanship, India has introduced new ideas in the areas of innovation, health and cultural exchange. India is committed to dealing with shared challenges and deepening regional cooperation.

Meeting global leaders
Modi will also meet President Xi Chinfing, Russian President Vladimir Putin and other leaders. This will be his first visit to China in seven years. During this time, there will be emphasis on gathering global support to strengthen the “Make in India” initiative.

Important tour amidst American tariff controversy
This visit of PM Modi is strategically very important amidst the American tariff controversy. It is expected that Japan, China and Russia’s cooperation will help India to reduce the impact of American tariffs. Modi expressed confidence that these visits will promote national interests as well as regional and global peace and development.
