The Rouse Avenue Court of New Delhi has reserved its verdict on the petition seeking an inquiry against Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday (September 10, 2025) for including the name of India without getting the name in the voter list.

The petitioner’s counsel said, ‘Rules say that first you have to get citizenship of the country, only then you can become a voter here. At that time there was neither PAN card nor Aadhaar card, only passport or ration cards were the basis of identity. In such a situation, the biggest question is that through which official government documents Sonia Gandhi became a voter from India’s capital New Delhi.

The lawyer said, ‘After this, in the year 1982, Sonia Gandhi’s name was deleted from the voter list. In 1982, two names were deleted from the voter list, one of these names was Sanjay Gandhi, the younger son of former Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi, who died and the other name was of Sonia Gandhi.

Many questions raised in the petition filed in court

• The petition said that Sonia Gandhi had gained citizenship of India on 30 April 1983, while her name was included in the 1980 voter list. The petition raised the question of how Sonia Gandhi’s name was included in the voter list of New Delhi of 1980.
• There is also a big question that in 1982, Sonia Gandhi’s name was deleted from the voter list, so what was the reason behind her that her name was removed.
• The petition raised the question that when he gained citizenship in 1983, on the basis of which documents, the name was included in the voter list in 1980, was fake documents resorted to?

Demand to give instructions to file a case in petition

At the same time, in his petition, the petitioner has demanded the Rouse Avenue Court to direct Delhi Police, so that the police can register a case in this case and start investigation. Also, a demand was made to file the status report of the investigation soon.
