‘State status issue is not responsible for terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir’, former CM Farooq Abdullah’s big statement

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah said during the hearing of the petition to restore state status in the Supreme Court that the terrorist attack took place during the state status. He says that state status is not responsible for terrorism, but a poor relationship with neighboring countries is the reason for this.

Farooq Abdullah’s statement
Farooq Abdullah told the media, “These (terrorist attacks) happened even when it was a state status. The state status is not the cause of this. This is because it happened because there are no good relations with our neighbors. If the terrorists come from there. If someone is talking about the status of the state and Pahalgam attack, then they should remember that there were many incidents during my tenure but then there were many incidents during my tenure.

He said, “We resolved it at that time. People are hoping that the Supreme Court will keep this in mind and restore our rights, as the government promised inside and outside Parliament.”

Supreme court hearing
Referring to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 22 April, the Supreme Court said that the government has the right to assess the situation. The apex court sought a reply from the Center on the petition to restore state status to Jammu and Kashmir. The petitioner’s senior lawyers Zaheer Ahmed Bhat and Khurshid Ahmed Malik, citing the Supreme Court’s decision to cancel 370 paragraphs of December 2023, said that the court did not decide to restore state status as the Solicitor General had assured to restore it after the election.

A bench of Supreme Court Chief Justice Bhushan BR Gavai and Justice of Justice said, “You also have to take into account the ground realities and cannot ignore the incident in Pahalgam in April. We do not have all expertise and some decisions should be made by the government.”
