Supreme Court also admitted that Medha Patkar convicted Delhi’s LG Vinay Saxena’s defamation, concession in punishment

The Supreme Court has upheld the conviction of social worker Medha Patkar in the defamation case of LG Vinay Saxena of Delhi, but giving relief to Medha, a fine of one lakh rupees and the order of attendance in the court from time to time has been removed.

In this case of 2000, the Magistrate Court convicted Medha and sentenced him to 5 months imprisonment and fine. Later, the sessions court gave them permission from going to jail for promising good conduct. The High Court justified both the orders. Now the bench of Supreme Court Justice MM Sundaresh and Justice N. Kotishwar Singh has also called Medha guilty of criminal defamation.

At the time of this case, Vinay Saxena used to work for an institution in Gujarat. Medha had made several allegations against him, including joining the hawala business. He also questioned Vinay Saxena’s patriotism. In the order given in April this year, the lower court had admitted that the allegations were baseless. The motive behind them was to demolish Vinay Saxena’s reputation in the eyes of the people.
