The Supreme Court has stayed the provision of the Waqf Amendment Act, 2025, under which a person was required to be a follower of Islam for five years for Waqf. Apart from this, the apex court said that the number of non-Muslims in the Waqf Board has also been limited to three. On this interim decision of the Supreme Court, Congress MP Imran Pratapgarhhi said that the Supreme Court has banned the soul of Waqf law.

Talking to ABP News, Imran Pratapgarhi said, ‘I see it as a big win. In the intention of the government, there were some amendments in it, which would have been banned by the Supreme Court on them. The fight is big, will fight till further: Imran Pratapgarhi

The Congress MPs, who were also the petitioners in this case, said that the rights given to the collector through this amendment were the biggest medium to rob the lands of Waqf. The Supreme Court has also commented on it. The fight is big, we will fight it further. Today is not the last interim decision.

What did the Supreme Court say in the verdict?

The Supreme Court, while giving the order, said that there is a dispute about some sections of the Waqf law. There is no basis for staying the entire law. However, the court has ordered the three major provisions. The court clarified that the condition of being a Muslim for 5 years to waqf will be postponed at present. Collector Waqf cannot settle the land dispute, the tribunal will settle it. The number of non -Muslim members in the Waqf Board cannot exceed three.
