The market of electric vehicles in India is growing rapidly, but the biggest concern of consumers is still about security. In such a situation, Tata Motors’ new electric SUV, Harrier EV, has emerged as an example in security. In the recent crash test conducted by India-NCAP (New Car Assessment Program), Harrier EV has received 5 star safety ratings. This achievement jointly makes Tata Harrier EV the safest electric car in India with Mahindra XEV 9E.
Tata Harrier EV became Sirmaur in security
Tata Motors’ Harrier EV was launched in the Indian market on 2 June. A few days after the launch, on June 24, India-NCAP released its crash test report, with a full 32 points out of 32 in adult safety and 45 out of 49 in child safety. The same score Mahindra XEV 9E also met during the crash test in January 2025. Thus herrier EV is now counted among the safest electric SUVs running on Indian roads.

How is India-NCAP crash test?
The Crash Test of India-NCAP is a scientific and standardized process in which the safety characteristics of the vehicle are tightened. In this, it is seen using dummy humans how much protection is available to the passengers sitting inside the car in the event of an accident. The test process consists of the following stages:
1. Dummy Setup: 4-5 dummys like humans are seated in a car. On the back seat, the children’s dummy is applied in the ISOFIX child seat.
2. Crash simulation: This includes three types of bump tests:
– Frontal Impact Test: The car is hit by a deformable barrier at a speed of 64 km/h.
– Side Impact Test: The vehicle is hit by a side barrier at a speed of 50 km/h.
– Pol side impact test: This is done only when the train gets at least 3 stars in the first two Tests. In this, the car is hit by the pole.
3. Evaluation of Safety Features: After the impact it is seen how much damage to the dummy, or not the airbags open or not, and the electronic safety features worked on time. Rating is given on all these grounds.
Crash test scoring standard
India-NCAP scoring system is very clear. Different scoring matrix is adopted for the safety of adults and children. This can be understood through the table below:
star rating | Adult protection score | Child protection score |
5 stars | 27 or more | 41 or more |
4 star | More than 22 | More than 35 |
3 stars | More than 16 | Over 27 |
2 stars | More than 10 | over 18 |
1 star | More than 4 | More than 9 |
Tata Harrier EV has scored 32/32 in adult and 45/49 in child, making it the highest class safety car.

Mahindra XEV 9E vs Tata Harrier Ev

Now electric car means not only ‘green’, but also ‘safe’
The 5-star rating of the Tata Harrier EV makes it clear that now electric vehicles in India are not only better for the environment, but also becoming strong options for the safety of passengers. It is a major achievement for Tata Motors and a new benchmark for other vehicle manufacturers.
If you are planning to buy electric SUV, Tata Harrier EV has now become number one not only in style and range but also in security.
