This year, the Chess World Cup will be held in India in October-November. At the same time, the name of host Shah was not yet announced for this event, FIDE, a global governing organization of the game, announced it on Monday.
In this tournament, 206 players will compete for the prestigious title and the qualification location for the 2026 FIDE Candidates tournament. India last hosted the event in Hyderabad in 2002, where Vishwanathan Anand won the title.
Also, the players will compete in the knockout format, where the defeating player in each round will be directly out.
FIDE said that, many formats have been used in the last few years in the event, but since 2021 it has adopted a single-origin format. Each round lasts for three days- the first two days two classic games, and tie-break on the third day when needed.
The top 50 players get bye in the first round. While players from 51 to 206 compete, in which the pair top is based on the principle of the top half versus the lower half.
FIDE further stated that, players who finish the top three locations of the 2025 World Cup will be directly qualified for the 2026 Candidates tournament, which will determine the challenge for the World Chase Championship.
Current world champion D Gukesh, 2023 World Cup runner -up R.K. Pragyanandadha and currently number five in the world Arjun Arigasi are among the stars who will be seen in action. World number one Magnus Carlson has also qualified to participate in this biennial competition, which he won in 2023.
