Bollywood debut with ‘sixteenth Sawan’
Born on August 13, 1963 in Shivkashi, Tamil Nadu, Sridevi’s full name was Sridevi Ayyapan. His film journey started at the age of just four. He started his career as a child artist with the Tamil film ‘Kandhan Karunai’ in 1967 at the age of four. After this, Sridevi made her Bollywood debut with the film ‘Sixteenth Sawan’ in 1978, but she got recognition from the 1983 film ‘Himmatwala’. The success of this film made him an overnight star.

Sridevi gave several superhit films one after the other, including ‘Sadma’, ‘Nagina’, ‘Nighe’, ‘Mr. India’, ‘Chalbaz’, ‘Lamhe’, ‘Khuda Witness’ and ‘Judai’. Sridevi, who made her mark in Hindi cinema as well as Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada films, made a mark as ‘First Lady Superstar of India’. The pair of Jeetendra and Sridevi worked together in 16 films, many of which rocked the box office.

Sridevi’s hit films include ‘Himmatwala’ (1983), ‘Jani Dost’ (1983), ‘Justice Chaudhary’ (1983), ‘Mawali’ (1983), ‘Suhagan’ (1986), ‘Ghar Sansar’ (1986), and ‘Sone Pe Suhaga’ (1988). The chemistry of this pair wooed the audience a lot and made a special place in Bollywood in the 80s. Sridevi was also awarded several National and Filmfare Awards. In 2013, he was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India. Even his wax statue was placed in Madame Tussauds Museum.
Comeback on screen after a long break, sudden death
Sridevi, who earned a name in the film world, was also in discussions about her personal life. She married film maker Boney Kapoor in 1996 and got two daughters, Jahnavi and Khushi Kapoor, from this wedding. Due to giving time to the family, Sridevi made distance from the film world, but after a long break, she made a great comeback with ‘English Vinglish’ in 2012. On February 24, 2018, he suddenly died in Dubai at the age of 54, which put the entire film industry and fans in deep shock.
